Hate Crime Seminar on the Independent Review of Hate Crime law in Northern Ireland


The All Party Assembly Working Group on Ethnic Minority Community is organising the Hate Crime Seminar on the Review of Hate Crime law in Northern Ireland on Tuesday, 19th November 2019 at 3-5:30pm at the Senate Room of the Parliament Buildings. Judge Marrinan who is leading the Independent Review of the Hate Crime law in Northern Ireland will address the audience. We also have both the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland to present the human rights and equality aspect of hate crime as part of the capacity building programme for BME sector. Question and Answer session will be available after the Judge as well as the two Commission presentation.

The final session is in a format of structured discussion on the following 3 issues in which the Judge would like to listen to the BME community:
1. The experiences of hate crime and hate speech from ethnic minority community;
2. What kind of hate crime law do we need to tackle the racist hate crime and hate speech in Northern Ireland?
3. How far could we (the community) refer victim of racist hate crime and hate speech to Bilingual Advocate Support Scheme?

This is a public event and everyone is welcome, in particular ethnic minority individuals as well as leaders and representatives from BME groups and sector.
